Local shopkeepers disappointed with smart city works, meet mayor

Local shopkeepers of Paltan Bazaar once again expressed their disappointment over the installation work of electric boxes in the marketplace which was allegedly done by Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) within a night without considering their appeals. The representatives of Doon Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DUVM) met the mayor Sunil Uniyal 'Gama' regarding the issue on Friday. They said that the installation of such massive boxes across the whole market without informing the shopkeepers, is a kind of an encroachment that is quite unnecessary. According to them, the installation was not included in the original plan of the smart city project. These boxes are quite big and the customers can also get hurt during the heavy footfall. They said that the shopkeepers do not approve of this plan and can stage a protest if the installation work will not be stopped soon. The president of the union, Vipin Nagaliya said that the mayor talked to the officials concerned on the phone and talked about the issue. He asked them to keep the shopkeepers in the loop about the ongoing projects in the market and also directed them to finish the necessary construction work first before initiating new work. The shopkeepers said that they will not allow the installment of such big boxes outside their shops at any cost and will stage a protest if authorities concerned fail to take necessary action.
