local MlA inspects landslide-prone areas

The local MlA and parliamentary secretary Vijay Pal Singh Sajwan inspected the landslide-prone stretches of the National Highway in Uttarkashi along with Border Roads Organisation officers and directed them to complete treatment work on such stretches without delay.

Inspecting stretches of the national highway from Dharasu to Uttarkashi which become closed to traffic due to landslides caused by heavy rain, Sajwan directed officials to ensure that the work on the highway near Tambakhani by the BRO is completed swiftly.

He instructed that treatment work be carried out at the nullah near Tambakhani. Pointing out that rains bring a lot of debris from the Varunawat mountain onto the road, he said that measures should be taken to provide a channel for the water and debris to prevent traffic on the road from being affected. Inspecting the Paduli nullah, he asked the BRO to draft a proposal for constructing a culvert at the site as a lot of debris from here ends up on both sides of the road during the rainy season. The BRO officials were directed to ensure that a bulldozer and JCB are available at all times near Badethi.

Stressing on the need to prevent traffic from being stalled during the three months of monsoon, the MlA directed officials to ensure that JCBs are available at all times on the landslide-prone stretch of the highway from Dharasu to Uttarkashi so that the road could be cleared of debris without delay in case of landslides. Alternate pedestrian routes will also be prepared, he said, while adding that all efforts were being made at his level to facilitate construction of alternate motor roads under a long term plan. Such alternate routes are important especially in view of the Char Dham Yatra, said Sajwan.

The BRO command officer Colonel S Bannerji, PR Bandhu, SDM Dunda, Vijaynath Shukla, disaster management officer Devendra Patwal and others accompanied the MlA on his inspection.
