Several chairs are lying vacant in the Samajwadi Party (SP) State office here. Barely, few seats, out of around 30 lying in the SP office, have occupants and those occupying the seats are senior SP leaders, including its Uttarakhand unit president Dr Satyanarayan Sachan. Panorama is enough for having an idea about the party’s position in Uttarakhand.
State president Sachan, however, is extremely confident about party’s good performance in the local body elections schedule on April 28. Irrespective of the SP’s poor show during the Assembly polls held in the State last year when party couldn’t get even six per cent votes, the SP leaders claim, “Political scenario has completely changed now. There was different scene at the time of Assembly polls.”
Sachan didn’t want to define different circumstances. “The SP would tread well in the local body elections. Party has drawn a complete blueprint for attaining success in these polls,” Sachan said. Asked, “Why are you so confident about excellent show of the party in the local body polls,” he said, “The SP has
carried out a survey in the state to have pulse about the people. There is current against the BJP and the Congress.”
When drawn attention towards deserted look at the office at a time when it should be full of workers, state president said, “Workers are busy in preparations of local body polls. So they don’t visit the office very often. They remain in the field.” He tried to justify it with the busy schedule of the workers.
He said that the party would ensure victory at various places. But, “How”, he left the query unanswered. “We had long discussions with the party workers and asked them to work hard for a better show,” Sachan said, adding that SP always gave proper response to the ground level workers. This would extend benefit to the party.
He said that the party would field candidates in all six municipal corporations, including Dehradun. Candidates for wards, nagar panchayats, and Nagarpalikas would be finalized on Wednesday. He also disclosed that the party had forged an alliance with CPI and CPM for the local body polls.
He, however, accepted that the party required hard work hard to expand its base in this region. like a sheer politician, he said, “We believe in decentralization of power. Therefore, I have already authorised SP district unit president Gulfam to finalize the candidates from various wards in Dehradun.” In other districts, district presidents have been authorised for the same.
Sachan, however, failed to give any concrete reason about his tall claim about treading well in the local body polls.
