Independent candidate from Dehradun cantonment assembly constituency and the patron of Hamara Uttarakhand Manch (HUM) Anoop Nautiyal has lodged a complaint with the election commission alleging that the liquor is being openly used by the leaders of political parties to influence voters.
Nautiyal has requested the election commission to take a serious note of the complaint. In a statement Nautiyal claimed that the candidates of major political parties are engaging in blatant violation of the model code of conduct. He alleged that illicit liquor is being distributed in many places in the slum areas like Gandhi Gram, Govindgarh, Shastrinagar and Premnagar. Nautiyal said that by offering free liquor to the slum dwellers an effort to buy their votes is being attempted. The Independent candidate said that the election commission has time and again warned that strict action on violation of model code of conduct would be taken but even then there is no curb on flow of illegal liquor in the constituency. He demanded that the election commission should send special teams in the Cantonment assembly segment and monitor the attempts to woo the voters by distribution of liquor.
Dehradun cantonment assembly segment is witnessing a keen three cornered contest between seven time MlA Harbans Kapoor of BJP, Surya Kant Dhasmana of Congress and independent candidate Anoop Nautiyal.
