The attempt of medical health and family welfare department to employ super specialist doctors in Doon hospital here has failed to attract these medicos. The department was hoping to appoint specialists like gastroenterologist, neurologist, urologist, nephrologist and endocrinologist to provide super specialty facility in the biggest hospital of the State.
In its endeavor to attract super specialists, the medical health department planned to appoint such doctors on contract. The department offered to give Rs75,000 per month to the specialist doctors for serving in Doon hospital.
It was learnt that no doctor offered himself for the job as the remuneration offered by the department was much less than the expectation of these doctors. These doctors reportedly demanded at least a sum Rs1.25 lakh per month to enter into the aforesaid contract.
The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital, Dr RS Aswal confirmed that no super specialist accepted the offer of the department. He said that the department was even ready to relax the duty hours of these doctors but that too failed to entice them.
Doon hospital is having super specialty facility in only cardiology and nephrology department. Being the biggest hospital of the State, the super specialty facilities in other fields of medical sciences are needed here. The hospital serves the people from Garhwal division of the State; apart from them large number of patients from neighboring districts of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh also visit the hospital.
The medical experts are of the view that the State Government should increase the remuneration offered to these doctors so that they are attracted to work in the hospital.
