Residents of Jamalpur village in Haridwar district are avoiding moving outdoors in the evening hours after two villagers were injured by a leopard attack on Monday. The Forest Department has also placed a cage to trap the big cat, which has so far remained elusive and roams free.
Jamalpur residents Shahid and Rashid were working at the farm on Monday evening when they were reportedly attacked by a leopard. local resident Anil Kumar said, “Fearing the threat of a leopard attack, we remain indoors during late hours for the fear of leopard attack. We complained to the Forest department which set up a cage in the area which alone is not the solution.”
Haridwar forest range officer Mahesh Semwal said, “We have sent a proposal to higher authorities for raising height of the protection wall in areas sharing boundary with the forest.”
