A leopard was reported to have been killed on the spot after being hit by a train while crossing the track on Friday. The Terai central sub divisional forest officer, Navin Chandra Pant informed that the mishap took place near the cantonment area which adjoins the forest area.
About three to four leopards are known to move around in this area. It is being surmised that at the time of the mishap the leopardess must have been out looking for prey on Friday morning moving out from the forest area and nearing the area inhabited by humans.
After the incident was reported, a team from the forest department took possession of the big cat’s body.
