learn lesson from Kolkata flyover mishap: Jugran

Published on:

The construction of flyovers at Ballupur, Balliwala and ISBT should be immediately stopped and a CBI inquiry should be ordered to probe the charges of corruption and violation of all norms in construction of these structures, said BJP leader and Former Chairman of Rajya Anadolankari Samman Parishad, Ravindra Jugran while addressing a press conference here on Friday.

He said that lessons should be taken from the Flyover collapse of Kolkata and claimed that the flyovers in Dehradun are being constructed in gross violation of National Highways Authority act 1956 and the Engineering Project India limited (EPIl) was awarded work of construction of these flyovers without any process of tender.

Incidentally EPIl is a blacklisted company. Putting a question mark over the role of liaison officer of these projects and Roorkee division of NHA entrusted with the task of monitoring of NH 72, the BJP leader claimed that these flyovers are being constructed without any surveys of traffic, population served and land.

Terming these flyovers as useless and undertaken without any vision for future, Jugran said that structures should be immediately dismantled and politicians and Government official responsible should be made to pay for the cost incurred on them till date.

He said that a CBI inquiry should be ordered in the case as prima facie the issue reeks of corruption. The BJP leader claimed that in Ballupur and Balliwala the pillars of the flyover are being constructed over the canal which is dangerous.

Jugran has also filed a Public Interest litigation (PIl) in High Court on the issue. The HC has directed the Chief Engineer of state PWD to appear before it on April 25 with design, approvals and status of construction of these flyovers.
