In another incident of police being at the receiving end of the law-breakers’ blows, two persons tore the uniform of a civic policeman after beating him up in Vikasnagar area.  Dehradun police later arrested the duo. They were sent to Suddhowala jail after being presented in the court. The accused have been identified as Santosh and Saksham, residents of Gurudwara Gali, Vikasnagar.

Vikasnagar police station in-charge inspector Harish Mehra said that constable Prem Singh had been deputed at Gurudwara Gali to resolve traffic congestion on Monday evening. A bike with three persons on hit the constable and tried to speed away from the spot. When the policeman grabbed them and asked explanation of their bevabiour altercation ensued that led to the trio punching blows on the constable and tearing his uniform.  Interestingly, one of the trio was a minor.  Constable Singh registered a complaint against unidentified persons in the Vikasnagar Police Station and a case under sections 332/353/186/279/504/506 of IPC was registered against three persons on Tuesday. All the three involved in the scuffle were arrested. Two were sent to Suddhowala jail while the third being a minor was handed over to his family members.

Notably, this is not the first such incident in the recent past of cops being attacked by miscreants when the latter were asked to identify themselves. On July 21, Dehradun police arrested a Tibetan, owner of a Dehradun-based restaurant, for allegedly pressing his two-wheeler’s key into an eye of a head constable when the latter stopped his bike and asked him to show documents during a vehicle-checking drive in Clement Town area.  He was later sent to jail.

In another incident, two constables- Angeshwar and Anuj- of Dhara Chowki were stabbed by a miscreant later identified as Boxer Raju, resident of Chakkhuwala on Naishwala Road, on September 29, 2013. Critics opine that police need to be more alert when they are on duty. “They need to be given training on how to deal with such miscreants,” one of them said.
