The launch of the home delivery of lunch for senior citizens by Indira Amma Canteen at the MDDA complex near Clock Tower slated for November 19 has been deferred due to Chief Minister Harish Rawat's busy schedule.

However, two new Indira Amma canteens one in the Doon Hospital premises and another at Transport Nagar- will be inaugurated in the State capital on Thursday as planned.

Puja Dwivedi, president of Raj lakshmi self help group that has been running the  cheap State Government-sponsored canteen since August 15 said things have been postponed because of the CM's other engagements that day like the  inauguration of the other two canteens.

"It has been decided that the first lunch box through home delivery will be given to the Chief Minister Harish Rawat who is also a senior citizen," she said, adding that around eight senior citizens have registered themselves so far for the home service.

She further said Jhangora Kheer being served since November 15 has been drawing more and more people  to the canteen.  "As the number of customers is increasing, we too are increasing the quantity of the item being prepared here. Initially, we used to prepare   12 to 15 kg daily. But now the quantity has gone up 18 kg per day. We hope the demand would further go up in the coming days," she added.

With another popular item Gauth Dal (Gahat)  set to be added to the menu soon, the number of customers thronging the canteen to have low-priced nutritious and now delicious meals is all set to spiral.  "Around 1150 people came on Sunday November 15 for lunch.  Jhangora Kheer can partly account for the surge," Dwivedi said.
