last minute confusion worries participants

Nidhi Bhardwaj is looking forward to participate in the International Yoga Day programme at FRI in Dehradun on June 21 to be attended by the Prime Minister.  However, she is still in a dilemma even after she attended the rehearsal for the mega Yoga show as the group leader at FRI on Tuesday.

With barely 48 hours left for the event to unfold, she said gloomily that clouds of uncertainty still hovered over her mind regarding her participation because of the contradictory statements coming from the Government departments. She is, however, not alone to be in the dilemma. There are many others like her in Haridwar district which is all set to send some 16,000 people  for the mega Yoga show in Dehradun.

E- gate pass SMSs are being  circulated by the Uttarakhand Government since Tuesday morning. Downloaded, the e-gate pass reads, “Under Don’ts category — electronic gadgets, water bottles and bags are not allowed inside the venue.” However, just two days ago, the senior cops had said while briefing that the participants would keep the waterproof mobile bags and shoe covers to be provided to them on their yoga mats.

There were some other hiccups. The central coordinator of Patanjali Yog Peeth Rakesh Mittal tweeted on early Tuesday morning that the buses did not reach around nine places to ferry people to FRI. He warned that if the same repeats on Thursday participation would remain elusive for many.

It is learnt that the district administration were still seeking quotes from the confectionaries for sandwiches and  khasta kachauris to be provided to the nodal officers and the  group leaders as breakfast. However, less than 48 hours left for the programme, the order was yet to be confirmed. “We are not fool enough to arrange for 16,000 pieces without receiving the purchase order,” said one of the confectioners based on Ranipur More.

The human resources executive from Akums, Kunal Dutt Sharma said, “We spent the whole night in the bus. We gathered at 10 pm  and the bus started at 1 am for FRI. The rehearsal left us tired. We wonder what would  happen on Thursday when there would doubtless be numerous security checks. Funnily enough, we were given just a packet of biscuits and a 5 ml Aloe Vera juice pack on the way. After attending the police briefing, we started back and returned around 10 am on Tuesday.”

Many say that they are still awaiting the VIP security passes and confirmations from the nodal officers. “Time is running out. We very much wonder whether we would finally make it to the venue,” said one of them despairingly.
