landslides due to heavy rains in different parts of Nainital have put lives of many at risk.
The district administration Nainital has, however, directed the officials concerned to shift families from Nainital’s landslide-prone Harinagar/ Tallital area to safer places in view of the incessant rains that continued here for two days.
At the same time, keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, the Nainital district administration has asked the officials concerned of the municipal council of Nainital to shift the aforesaid families forcefully in case they (the aforesaid families) do not vacate the landslide-prone areas of Nainital’s Haringar/ Tallital area.
More so, the Nainital district administration has also asked the officials concerned to issue notices to those 30 house-owners who have constructed buildings along the landslide prone drainage -20 area in Nainital. More so, it has also asked the officials concerned to dismantle those illegally constructed houses on the landslide prone areas in Nainital’s drainage -20 area after verification.
Meanwhile, incessant rain showers have only exposed claims made by the Nainital district administration to have put in place necessary measures to effectively deal with basic services issues like waterlogging mainly in urban areas like Haldwani.
The matter of concern is that despite State Finance Minister and MlA from Haldwani Indira Haridayesh’s repeated warnings to the officials concerned to look after the civic affairs effectively, the problem of water-logging continued to hit normal life badly here for long.
The fact of the matter is that water- logging due to rain on different city roads particularly the busy Haldwani- Kaladhungi Road is very common. So the motorists including pedestrians have been experiencing a harrowing time due to rain water blocking the main city roads including the Haldwani -Kaladhungi here for many days.
Similarly, pedestrians also faced a tough time due to water-logging in different roads and other busy market places. Encroachment on the Haldwani- Kaladhungi Road seems to be the main reason behind water-logging. Had the officials concerned taken necessary steps on time, perhaps the situation of water-logging could be avoided, said the citizens living along the said Haldwani- Kaladhungi Road area.
Meanwhile, increasing water level of Gola rivers in Haldwani has also come as a cause of concern for the people living in lowers pockets of Haldwani and neighbouring lalkuan area of late.
So the residents living in those areas have been asked to remain alert and to move to safer places.
