Bhagat Singh Koshiyari of the BJP registered a landslide victory in the Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency, stopping the rival Congress party from creating history by way of winning this seat in consecutive third time and put an end to communal politics that has always been at the centre of the same seat by securing his victory margin even from the assembly pockets like the Haldwani Assembly constituency which has always been at the centre of caste based politics.
By receiving 6,35,318 votes, Koshiyari registered a huge lead of about 2,83,792 votes over his nearest Congress candidate K C Singh Baba who received only 3,51,526 votes in the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar lok Sabha seat.
It may be recalled that apart from some other Assembly pockets in the previous lok Sabha polls the BJP did not do well in the Haldwani Assembly segment too and the BJP lost the same lok Sabha seat to the Congress party by about 80,000 votes and in this victory margin of the Congress party the Haldwani Assembly constituency's nearly one lakh voters played a decisive role.
However, this time the BJP emerged single largest party in this Assembly seat bagging 40,919 votes followed by the Congress party with 35,880 votes and BSP with 1,708 votes. Thus the BJP's got a lead of 5,039 votes over his nearest Congress candidate K C Singh Baba in the Haldwani Assembly segment.
Interestingly, BJP candidate Koshiyari's better performance in all Assembly segments of the Nainital district can be attributed to its victory margin of 1,02,125 votes recorded only in the Nainital district.Among the Assembly constituencies of the Nanital district, his victory margin in the Kaladhungi Assembly segment was recorded maximum i.e. 42,473 votes followed by the lalkuan Assembly constituency with 30,221 votes, the Bhimtal Assembly constituency with 15,794 votes, the Nainital Assembly constituency with 8,598 votes.
The interesting fact is that Koshiyari swept all the nine assembly constituencies of the Udham Singh Nagar Assembly constituencies also where six assembly segments are with the BJP and three are with the Congress party. He got a maximum 74,907 votes in Rudrapur Assembly segment followed by Kashipur with 55,414 votes, Gadarpur with 51,186 votes, Bazpur with 44,678 votes, Sitarganj with 42,647 votes, Kichha with 40,918 votes , Nanakmatta with 40,719 votes Jaspur with 37,052 votes and Khatima with 36,293 votes.
The BSP emerged as the third single largest party in this seat receiving 59,203 votes.
