landslide-prone Sirobagarh in Rudraprayag district, nearly 22 km away from Srinagar of Pauri district and located along Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway, is set to give way to an alternative route. landslides occurring frequently along the stretch has been creating hurdles of traffic transportation particularly during the rainy season for the past many decades. The landslips affect Kedarnath and Badrinath yatras with the road remaining blocked for days. The officials said that once the new road is constructed there would be no blockade even during the peak of the rainy season.
The people hope that things would be smooth for them once the alternative route for traffic is thrown open in June this year.
The alternative route from Dajeemanda to Chatikhal was sanctioned by the State Government and the Rudraprayag department. Much of the work being completed, it is hoped that the road would be completed in two months. This under-construction road has been diverted a little distance ahead of Khankra. It is learnt that the project cost is Rs.4.5 crore.
District magistrate Rudraprayag Raghav langar said that this bypass will be opened for traffic in June and strict instruction has been given to PWD to complete things in two months at latest.
