Cyber cell in Dehradun SSP office and the recently formed Cyber Police station in Dehradun appear to be toothless with the posts of sub-inspector in Cyber Cell and inspector in Cyber Police Station lying vacant. Cases related to fraudulent transactions involving withdrawal of money from the bank accounts of customers are on the rise and the police department is finding it difficult to solve such cases because of the non-recruitment of officers. However, State DGP BS Sidhu said that he would soon appoint inspector in Cyber police station.
Moreover, junior police officers at Cyber cell in Dehradun SSP office also are facing difficulties to solve such cases due to lack of cooperation from the bank officials. Several such cases have been reported in Cyber Cell, Dehradun SSP office, but the bank officials are not providing police relevant information. In such cases, neither police nor bank officials tend to help the complainants, the refrain goes.
A woman police personal posted at SSP office said that they were helpless in the absence of a sub-inspector in the office. Things have remained so since the previous sub-inspector was deputed at Cyber Police Station. Around ten complaints of fraudulent transaction involving withdrawal of money from the bank accounts have been reported over the past one month. “We cannot do anything to act on the complaints. On one hand, there is no sub-inspector and, on the other, the bank officials are not proving helpful in cracking such cases,” she said.
A vegetable vendor Kamlesh Gupta has been making rounds of police stations and bank for around three months after a sum of Rs 68,000 was withdrawn from his account by unknown persons. Sharing his plight, Gupta said, “I have bank account in Sate Bank of India, Race Course, Dehradun. I had kept around Rs 81,640 in the account. On January 11, I had withdrawn Rs 5,000 from the bank account. At 1.30 pm on February, someone had withdrawn around Rs 76,000 from the account. Rs 52.64 was left in the account. I had approached the bank but the bank officials did not help me. They advised me to register a case in the police station instead. I again reached ATM and checked the account. I found Rs 8,000 was deposited by unidentified persons. I quickly withdrew Rs 8,000 from the account. I have thus lost Rs 68,000 from my account. I wonder what to do to get back money thus lost. I had neither handed over my ATM card nor disclosed its ATM pin number to anyone else.”
