The lack of basic amenities at Siddha Shakti Pith Surkanda temple is posing problems for the visiting devotees. The damaged foot tracks and lack of drinking water facilities are causing hardships to the devotees reaching here on the occasion of Dussehra to worship the goddess, the reigning deity of the temple. However, the temple committee has of late begun making arrangements to meet the challenges confronting them. They anticipate large footfalls this year too.
located amidst peerless natural beauty, the Siddha Shakti Pith Surkanda temple is a centre of faith beckoning lakhs of devotees. The temple is visited by hundreds of devotees daily all round the year. However, during the Dussehra festival, people from across the country keep throng the temple in huge number.
Because of the dearth of motorable road, people have no other option but to climb the precariously steep hilly road on foot. Due to the bad state of the road, the devotees often fall and get injured.
Compounding on the plight of the devotees, the temple is bereft of the facility of drinking water. It is learnt that the temple being not linked to the pumping water scheme and the water has to be carried to it on the backs of the mules from Kaddukhal. This involves lots of money. The devotees have to manage mineral water themselves all along the tortuous way.
Some members of the temple committee like Jitendra Negi, Tilakram Chamoli and Ramkrishna Dabral said that to meet the increased volume of the required water during the Dussehra festival, they would have more water ferried on the mules and the horses to the temple. A meeting would soon be held at the behest of the temple committee to make a plan for improving the condition of the road leading to the temple.
