Lab technicians continue their agitation

The ‘fasting while working’ agitation of the laboratory technicians of state health services continued for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. In support of their four point demands these frontline Corona warriors are on a path of agitation from July 1. Under the banner of Uttarakhand Medical Lab Technician Association these lab technicians wore black armbands while doing the tasks of collecting samples of suspected patients and tests from July 1 to 5. From Monday, the association has adopted the Gandhian method of agitation in which the technicians are working while undertaking a fast.

The association wants that the State Government should not deduct one day of salary for Covid-19 of all the front line health workers like them. It is also demanding reorganisation of the cadre of Lab technicians and preparation of regulations pending from a many years should be undertaken without any further delay.

In view of the threat they are exposed to while taking samples and testing, the lab technicians should be provided a risk allowance.

The association is also demanding the benefit of assured career progression to all lab technicians.

The general secretary of the association, Manoj Mishra said that it is unfortunate that the authorities are paying no heed to the Gandhian agitation of the lab technicians. He warned that the association would be forced to intensify its agitation if the justified demands are continued to be neglected by the State Government.
