Acting on the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) scheduled benchmark for the laboratories in the schools, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) would start a pilot project for upgrading the existing laboratories in its 200 schools across the country. The KVS has about 1,100 schools in the country.

The CBSE has made a benchmark for the laboratories of all the schools affiliated to it according to which the schools should have all the necessary equipment and other facilities in their labs for successfully conducting the experiments and practical examinations mentioned in the curriculum.

The deputy director of KVS Uttarakhand region SS Chauhan informed that the KVS board of governors has recently decided to start a pilot project in 200 schools across the country for upgrading existing facilities in the laboratories. These schools would be provided a budget of `10 lakh for modernising their labs.

Chauhan said that he hoped that at least 10 schools of Uttarakhand would be selected under the pilot project while adding that Kendriya Vidyalayas have physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and geography laboratories. Most of the schools have also set up a junior science laboratory for the students of classes VI to VIII.

The Principal of KV ONGC Dhanraj Singh Negi said that the schools could modernise their labs under the project and the practical part is very important for the students.
