Kunwar demands PM's intervention to seek CBI probe into major scams

Senior BJP leader and party’s Kumaon convener Hukum Singh Kunwar has sought  Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to get all major scandals that have surfaced in the past over a decade or so under different party regimes in Uttarakhand to be investigated by the CBI.

Setting up commissions to find truth in different cases of corruptions or scandals is nothing but a tactic to buy time and misuse of public funds. That is why we demand a CBI enquiry into these cases of corruptions and scandals, said Kunwar here on Sunday.

“But we would not sit idle,  rather we would soon meet the Prime Minister and demand  him to order a CBI inquiry into all scam or scandals that have surfaced during the past so many years in Uttarakhan,” he said. The matter of concern is that land mafia is ruling the roost particulary in Udham Singh Nagar, Haldwani, Nainital, Dehradun, Haridwar to name a few areas of Uttarakhand. Corruption is at its peak in the hill State.

And that has become possible only after a nexus of corrupt politicians, Government officials and landmafia. While corrupt leaders are being sent to jail in other States, the corrupt leaders or officials here in the hill State are roaming free, alleged the senior BJP leader. There are dozens of cases of corruption, scams or scandals that have taken place over the years in Uttarakhand. But nothing has been done so far, he further said.

So we demand a CBI probe into these cases and would also take up these matters of corruptions with senior Central BJP leader Subramanium Swami who is an instrumental in sending former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha jail in the same charges of corruption. Non-implementation of the lokpal Bill even more than two years after its formation in the then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Maj Gen (retd) BC Khanduri’s regime has only raised question over seriousness of the present State Government about prevention of corruption, he maintained.

It is quite unfortunate that the lokpal Bill that was passed during the BJP regime has not yet been implemented in the State. The bureaucracy is dominating the Government, while the State Government is hell bent on doling out the public exchequer by accommodating maximum number of people within the Government’s permission, he alleged.
