Alleging that Harish Rawat Government has come to power through horse-trading and other unfair means, the chairperson of Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti, Sanjay Chopra quit on Friday. His tenure was till 18 November 2018. Chopra put in his papers to the secretary Vijay Prasad Thapliyal at Mandi Samiti office. Close to the nine rebel Congress MlAs, particularly Harak Singh Rawat, he claimed that many more Congress MlAs would resign in  the coming days. Speaking to The Pioneer, Chopra said, “Harish Rawat  has returned to power thanks to horse-trading of the worst type. Right now, only 26 out of 36 Congress MlAs are with the party and more  MlAs are about to follow  suit in the coming days. This is a sham Government by all accounts. I resigned from this constitutional post because I was feeling awkward,” he said.

Chopra further said that  in 2012, Harish Rawat had him dismissed four hours after he assumed charge as the chairperson of Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti. “I survived the machinations  of the present  CM thanks to the support of Harak Singh Rawat,”  Chopra said. He further said that the Mandi Samiti adhyaksh from Rishikesh, Dehradun and other places are also resigning simultaneously.
