Citing various decisions taken by the High Court of Uttarakhand in recent past, the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar MP and former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari has written to the Union Minister of Law and Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad requesting that some relief be provided to the State administration and public from the “over activeness” of the High Court.
Koshyari wrote, “Recently, newspapers carried a statement of the Congress State president who had said that in Uttarakhand, the judiciary is running the administration instead of the Government. Such was the general talk for the past couple of years but after the statement made by a responsible political leader, it has become important to consider this seriously. The High Court delivers a decision every day on some public interest litigation or the other which makes it appear as if public interest litigation have become publicity interest litigation.” He quoted the previous Chief Justice of India, Dipak Mishra who had stated in his farewell speech that justice must have a human face.
