After lambasting the Congress-led State Government for not implementing lokayukta Bill in the State, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) BC Khanduri, said that it has now become mandatory for the State Government to fulfil all formalities to implement Bill within 180 days from the date of assent by the President of India.
While addressing mediapersons in a Press conference held at State party office in Dehradun on Saturday, Maj Gen (Retd) BC Khanduri said that the State Government should call a special session of Vidhan Sabha, if the State Government wanted to amend the Bill.
“Since the Bill received assent by President of India, it has now become obligatory for the State Government to set up the staff structure for implementing the Bill in Uttarakhand within 180 days from the date of approval,” he said, adding that if the State Government does not take effective steps for implementing the Bill in the State within the given timeframe then the Union Government will automatically take nod of it.
After expressing his concern over the issue that the Congress led State Government is in the habit of quashing all beneficiary projects and Act passed during the BJP regime, Maj Gen Khanduri said that the State Government seems to be least interested in curbing corruption in the State.
“The lokayukta Bill was unanimously passed in the Vidhan Sabha during the BJP regime and the then leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Dr Harak Singh Rawat also gave his consent but now the State Government is busy not to implement the Bill in the State. Maj Gen Khanduri demanded from the Congress led State Government to enact the Bill at the earliest in order to keep a tab on corrupt Government officials and public representatives.
The BJP State Chief Tirath Singh Rawat, leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Ajay Bhatt, GS Negi, general secretary, Anil Goyal, vice president, Umesh Agarwal, State spokesman, Saurabh Thapliyal, Vinod Kaparwan and many more were present.
