The BJP candidate for Garhwal lok Sabha seat Maj Gen (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri along with BJP leader Satpal Maharaj received enthusiastic response from party workers and members of the public at a meet organised here on Thursday. Khanduri and other leaders addressed the public on the Ramlila Ground after the BJP candidate filed his nomination.

Despite the bad weather and drizzling, a considerable number of people had gathered in the public meet. Addressing the public on the occasion, Khanduri said that the people of Garhwal constituency had been favouring him since 1991 and all that he had achieved was only due to their support. He appealed the voters to exercise their franchise in favour of the BJP in order to make Narendra Modi the prime minister of India and bring about the change needed for betterment of the nation. He said that they should vote to get rid of the problems they had been facing under 10 years under the Congress led UPA Government at the centre.

Addressing the gathering, Satpal Maharaj who recently left the Congress and joined BJP, said that the public was curious to know why he had left the Congress after 30 years in that party. He said that the senior Congress leaders ignored his request to declare the June 2013 Uttarakhand disaster a national disaster even though people from various Indian States had suffered in this disaster. Only compensation was provided to the disaster victims instead of constructing homes for those rendered homeless, which fuelled migration fro the mountains to the plains. Pointing at other issues ignored by the Congress, Maharaj said that he had joined the BJP to support its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who has a broad vision and the ability to solve the problems facing the nation. Stating that members of the Muslim community fear only ‘Khuda’, he exhorted them to join the BJP to help fulfill the aspirations of the common man.

BJP State chief Tirath Singh Rawat, MlAs Vijaya Barthwal, DS Rawat and other party leaders spoke on the works undertaken during the tenure of the BJP led NDA Government at the Centre while criticising the works undertaken in the 10 year term of the Congress led UPA Government. They said that the people of India are facing price hike, corruption, unemployment and scams which has caused frustration and fueled the desire for change in the Government.
