launching a scathing attack on the State Government for dumping the policy for selecting candidate for the post of Director, Sainik Kalyan, Garhwal MP and chairman defence parliamentary committee, Major Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri (Rtd) has said that the State Government is reversing all the policy decisions which he had taken as Chief Minister for the benefit for the people of the State.
The former CM listed transfer act, right to service Act, lokayukt Act and the compulsion of doctors who studied under subsidized scheme in the Government medical colleges to serve in the mountainous location for minimum time period as such decisions he had taken to ensure a corruption free and ideal state of Uttarakhand on which the present Congress regime has taken a roll back.
He said that Uttarakhand is the State dominated by the ex-servicemen and serving armed forces personnel and has a rich history of sacrifice at the altar of national interests; to protect the interests of these ex servicemen a policy for selection for director Sainik Kalyan was made.
Khanduri said that he wanted that a person of high caliber should be appointed in such key post who can understand the problem and aspiration of serving and retired armed forces personnel.
The former CM said that by abolishing the policy it appears that the Congress Government wants to appoint some of its protégé on the coveted post so it has relaxed the norms of appointment.
He said that the people of the State have witnessed the fallouts of the abolishing his earlier decisions.
The State Government has recently relaxed the norms for appointment on the post of Director Sainik Kalyan.
Under the norms established by Khanduri government only a person who has retired from the post of Brigadier or above would be eligible for the post of director. Exceptional service, decorations and UN mission service were other criteria which carried additional weightage points in the earlier policy which is now done away with. Under the relaxed norms an officer who has retired from the rank of Colonel is now eligible for the post of Director.
