Khali challenges WWE to participate in two-day-long CWE

Published on:

Daleep Singh Rana alias the Great Khali has categorically challenged WWE (World Wrestler Entertainment) to participate in the two-day-long pro wrestling championship or  Continental Wrestler Entertainment (CWE) in India. The first CWE fight will be organised in Haldwani on February 24 followed by one in Dehradun on February 28. These matches will involve four women wrestlers, 14 international participants, Khali and other Indians. The State Government is constructing two international-level stadiums- one each in Dehradun and Haldwani. The CWE is being organised to mark the inauguration of these stadiums.

To promoted CWE, Khali addressed the media in the presence of Chief Minister Harish Rawat. In line with the WWE’s  style, Khali appeared to lose his cool and broke a table here when asked whether he had been ousted from WWE. He challenged pro-wrestlers from around the world to the events being held in Uttarakhand.

It would be pertinent to mention here that after ‘becoming’ The Great Khali, Rana had decided to open a CWE academy in Jalandhar district of Punjab.

The event in Uttarakhand is being promoted under the CM4Youth initiative with its brand promotion being done by sports and management enterprise Integrated Brand Solutions (IBS).

The CM said that the CWE events in Uttarakhand will be held in the newly constructed stadiums in Haldwani and Dehradun each with 15,000 capacity. The event will be displayed live on lED screens in every district of the State.

Rawat said that pro-wrestling is popular among the youth in Uttarakhand who have also taken inspiration from Khali who had transformed into a WWE champion from being a daily wage labourer.

Appreciating the Khali, Rawat pointed out that he is a grandfather as well with his grand daughter also being a big fan of Khali.

The story of his life exemplifies how a person can achieve any goal in life through hard work,

said Rawat.

He expressed hope that the  initiative will attain new heights in India while also providing Uttarakhand’s youth an international platform to showcase their abilities in pro wrestling.
