Demanding start of evening shift in the Kendriya Vidhyalaya- Indian Institute of Petroleum (KV- IIP) local residents of Miyanwala and Mokhampur areas held a demonstration outside the school on Monday. On the day, parents and locals under umbrella of ‘Kesar Jan Kalyan Samiti’ (KJKS) assembled outside the school and held a vehement protest. The agitator demanded that the school should restart evening shift so that the people of the locality are benefitted.

The, president of the KJKS  NK Gusain  said that the school at present is catering to a select group of parents and with the construction of new building a second shift should start in the school. “The school had evening shift from 2004 to 2010. With start of evening shift number of seats in the school would increase and the parents of the locality would get benefit as many of them cannot afford high fees of private schools,’’ he said.

The members of the committee have threatened to intensify their agitation if their genuine demand is not accepted. The Principal of the school Safalta  Rani  Vishnoi said that the second shift was merged with the first shift as per orders of the HRD ministry. She also raised the issue of safety of students if evening shift is started as the school is located on a busy National Highway and area is frequented by leopards.
