Kerosene oil is being distributed under public distribution system among the ration card holders in the district. However, the Central Government has been releasing around 34 per cent of what it is supposed to release to the State for the past several months, resulting in deficit, said Dehradun district food and civil supply officer PS Pangtey on Wednesday.
He said that the State is receiving kerosene around 66 per cent less than what is entitled to receive from the Central Government. “Following the direction from the senior officers, whatsoever we receive under the PDS from the Centre is being distributed among the ration card holders in the district,” he added.
Kerosene oil is being given to those ration card holders under PDS who have not procured gas connection from any gas agency. Based on release of Kerosene oil from Centre, around 1.5 to 2 litres of kerosene oil are being distributed among the ration card holders in the district, he added.
On receipt of reports from the inspectors, PDS dealers began the distribution among the card holders. “We have taken some measures to provide rations under PDS to the card holders on time each month, he added.
Uttarakhand Fair Price Ration Shopkeepers’ Association (FPRSA) president Jitendra Gupta said that food and civil supply officer has directed the PDS dealers to cut down the quota to two litres for each card holder because of the Central cut in the supply.
However, the dealers are receiving one litre from the godowns. Dealers are thus facing wrath from the ration card holders who are adamant to have five litres kerosene oil as per the Government norms.
The Government has not taken any step to bring down the quota in view of the deficit in supply and this is landing us in trouble, he said. According to FPRSA president Gupta, as per Government guidelines framed earlier, if card holders do not have gas connection and they reside in the city, they will receive five litres kerosene oil under PDS while those living in the rural areas will receive seven litres.
