In connection with the death of a kanwariya from Haryana Vikas Beniwal, who was killed when bullets went off from a ITBP jawan’s rifle, Haridwar police has decided to go for a CB-CID probe. A letter has been sent to SSP head office regarding the same.
On 15 July, when the Kanwar mela was on, the incident occurred near Sarvanand ghat. The ITBP jawan Nitesh Rana had blamed Vikas for the incident, saying that he had tried to snatch his rifle under the influence of liquor and had also lodged a complaint against him.
However, the family members of the deceased had filed a complaint against ITBP personnel Nitesh Rana and Santosh Chatterjee in Nagar Kotwali regarding the death.
