Kanda fair of Dalchauri observed without any animal sacrifice

The famous Kanda religious fair of Dalchauri in Srinagar Tehsil of Pauri district was held peacefully without any animal sacrifice on Tuesday.

This is the sixth consecutive year when the event was held without any animals being slaughtered in the name of religion.

The Kanda Mela is celebrated every year on the occasion of Bhai Dooj with thousands of people offering prayers at the temple in Dalchauri on the occasion.

Devotees from different parts of the district and country visit this temple to beseech the deity to grant their wish and again visit the shrine after the fulfillment of their wish to thank the God and Goddess on the occasion of the Kanda Mela.

Devotees reached the temple with flags to offer at the shrine while marching to drums.

The Srinagar Tehsil administration made proper arrangements for this religious festival and adequate police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

It is pertinent to mention that due to the efforts of the district administration, NGOs, the local people and the temple committee, the ritual slaughter of the animals in the name of religion was stopped here six years ago.

Out of the four famous fairs in Pauri district where animals are slaughtered in the name of religion, this practice is being continued only at Kalinka Mela , while in Mundaneshwar mela  this year and in Bungkhal mela last year, no animal was slaughtered in the name of God.
