Some adherents of Juna akhara were reportedly beating a vagrant at the Manasa Devi Temple parking on Sunday morning when a local trader and BJP leader reached the spot. On his intervention, some of the Akhara members allegedly started beating him. The local BJP leader lodged a complaint against the akhara members and has demanded action against the culprits. Police sent the injured politico to district hospital for medical check-up.

A tiff arose between the Juna akhara members and local traders at 11.30 am on Sunday when local BJP leader Vinod Kumar Mishra stopped the akhara seer Mahant Shiv Mohan Puri from purportedly beating a persons begging for alms from people in the akhara premises. The quarrel between the sadhu and the businessman politico turned violent and the member of the religious fraternity is purported to have manhandled him.

As news of the incident spread in town a number of members of the business fraternity and politicians gathered at Haridwar police station demanding action against Mahant Shiv Mohan Puri. The irked businessmen protested outside the Kotwali and even tried to block traffic on the busy road.

When asked about the case, the Haridwar district president of BJP Yuva Morcha,  Harjeet Singh said , “I have heard that some dispute arose between Juna akhara sadhu and Vinod Kumar Mishra while parking a car in Mayadevi parking where a beggar was being beaten by Puri. He has lodged the complaint in police station.”
