Members of the Jan Sangharsh Morcha (JSM) along with differently abled persons gheraoed the Tehsil in Vikasnagar and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor demanding that the pension amount for the differently abled be increased.
The JSM chief Raghunath Singh Negi said that during July 2016, the then Chief Minister Harish Rawat has passed an order for provision of Rs 2,000 monthly pension for the differently abled with more than 60 per cent disability, who were dependent on others and poor. However, two years after the order was passed, the pension amount for such differently-abled persons has not been raised.
Negi alleged, “The attitude of such officers can be gauged from the fact that instead of taking necessary action on the said order, they have been shifting the file in question from one desk to the other.
It is unfortunate that while the MlAs and Ministers are getting their own salaries and pensions hiked, the differently-abled with severe handicap making them bed-ridden and in need of constant care, are being ignored by the Government. The social welfare department appears more interested in scholarship scam and such issues,” averred Negi.
The JSM has requested the Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul to direct officials concerned regarding implementation of the 2016 order regarding provision of Rs 2,000 monthly pension for those with more than 60 per cent disability.
Action should also be directed against the “irresponsible” officers for the delay in implementation of the said order, the JSM further demanded.
