Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MlA from Mussoorie Ganesh Joshi in a press meet on Tuesday accused the State Government of acting partial, when it comes to releasing funds for the development of the areas that come under the constituencies where BJP candidates were elected. last year’s disaster wreaked havoc in his constituency with roads, government buildings, safety walls, tube wells and electricity poles being damaged. Keeping this in view, he had formulated a string of proposals worth Rs10 crores under various projects with the approval of department officers concerned. However, only Rs20 lakh has been released by the State Government so far. Joshi threatened to gherao the Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Yashpal Arya soon along with the local residents, if funds are not promptly released by the Government.
MlA Joshi said that in the aftermath of last year’s disaster, several areas which are around 15 kilometres away from the residence of the Minister Arya had got disconnected. But funds for rebuilding the infrastructure have not been yet released. He alleged that crores had been released by the Centre for rebuilding infrastructures and ensuring rehabilitation of the affected people. But the Congress-led Government has failed to utilise such funds effectively to provide succour.
Joshi further demanded the State Government to formulate a plan, highlighting special criteria to regularise the slums. The previous regime led by BJP had constituted a committee led by Madam Kaushik to formulate such a plan. However, the Congress Government abolished it. Joshi said that the party had recently launched membership drive in his constituency and 51, 000 persons had secured party membership.
