Alleging harassment of party workers by the State police in the name of Maoist activities, a joint delegation of leaders of Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI M), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Uttarakhand Parivartan Party (UPP) met the State Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Tuesday and handed over a memorandum.

These leaders demanded that an impartial enquiry should be ordered in the case of pasting of banners and posters of Maoist in  Almora district.

They blamed the state police for falsely implicating CPI M activist and State President of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Comrade Yusuf Tiwari in case. The delegation said that Tiwari is active in social and political circles and the way he was forced to sit at the police station on May 2 and manhandled raises serious questions on the motive and action of local police.

Similarly Diwan Singh Bisht of UPP was campaigning for the party candidate when he was arrested on May 4 on the charges of pasting the moist posters by the police.

The leaders demanded that Bisht should be immediately released and an independent and impartial inquiry should be constituted and the guilty police personnel be punished.

Vijay Rawat of CPI, Samar Bhandari and Aanat Prakash of CPIM and Rajiv Kothari of UPP presented the memorandum to the CM Harish Rawat.
