Surya Kiran, the joint exercise between Indian and Nepalese Armies, culminated at Pithoragarh on Sunday. This is the seventh such exercise involving the forces of the two countries. The exercise — which initially was started at platoon level (30 jawans) — has now been extended to the battalion level and it is second battalion level exercise.
Speaking after monitoring the exercise, Major General Ashwini Kumar of Indian Army said that the exercise would be helpful in developing understanding between the armies of the two countries.
He said that such events help in developing knowledge about the organisation setup and operational understandings of methods of anti-terrorism operations. Major General Hemant Kunwar of Royal Nepalese army also reviewed the joint exercise and appreciated the event.
The aim of the joint exercise is to develop mutual understanding between the Indian and Nepalese Armies especially in the forest warfare and anti terror operations in the rugged mountainous areas. This exercise focused on the disaster management, precautions to be taken in event of some epidemic of disease and aviation aspects of warfare.
