A federation of unemployed BEd and TETs has decided to take their agitation to the special session of the State Assembly at Gairsain. The federation is agitating to increase the number of posts of primary teachers in the State.
Amit Kashyap, general secretary of the BEd/TET qualified unemployed federation, told The Pioneer that they have decided to go to Gairsain on Monday where a three-day special session of the Assembly would be held and apprise the Chief Minister, Education Minister and the legislators of their demands.
He said that they want that the Government should add 1,800 more posts in the current recruitment process of primary teachers. Kashyap informed that the State cabinet has approved the proposal to create the above mentioned posts against the requirement of teachers after March 2016 but the Government Order (GO) for the decision has not been released yet.
The federation is on a path of agitation since January 5 this year; it demanded that the State Government should immediately fill the large number of posts of primary teachers in the Government schools. The fact that the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has clearly directed that the posts of the primary teachers should be filled only by the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) qualified youths prompted these youths to start an agitation.
There are more than 25,000 BEd and Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET)-qualified youths in the State and the directive of the NCTE meant marring their job prospects. The agitation of the federation and the relentless pressure it put on the Government yielded result as the education department initiated recruitment process for 1,898 posts of primary teachers. The department later added 96 and 800 more posts under backlog quota in this recruitment drive. On Thursday the state government gave its approval to further add 389 more posts. The federation is now demanding that the department should add 1,800 more posts which would fall vacant due to retirement by March 31, 2016. Their plea is that this is their last chance to get job as primary teacher as per the new directive of the NCTE.
