Bid to put pressure on State Govt
To pressure the State Government regarding their one- point, long-pending demand of appointment in the Government schools, four members of BPEd/MPEd Trained Unemployed Union have climbed atop a water tank near Survey Chowk in Dehradun on Tuesday in bids to self-immolate themselves.
The names of the four protesters were Narmata Bora, resident of Pithoragarh, Mukul Sarki, resident of Almora, Vasim and Sonu, both residents of Hardiwar. Moreover, around 28 protesters were arrested by police who were also attempting to climb atop the water tank in support of their one-point demand.
The process of producing them in the court was on while this story was being filed.
Meanwhile, in view of the protest rally called by the agitating union, the administration has deployed adequate police forces at the Parade Ground, Old Bus Stand and some other places.
The protesters who had planned to take the rally up to the Chief Minister’s residence were stopped midway by the administration. Angered over the resistance, many protesters began running towards water tank near Survey Chowk, but four of them succeeded in reaching atop.
Finding them moving towards the water tank, the police force began chasing them. However, four of them succeeded to climb atop the water tank at Survey Chowk. SP City Ajay Singh and other police officers rushed in and arrested others who were attempting the ascent.
Earlier, the Union State president Sundar Dhoni had alleged that BPEd and MPEd trained persons are being exploited by the State Government. The union had submitted several memorandums to the Government officers, but no action was taken so far.
He had warned on Monday that the union would take out a rally up to the Chief Minister’s residence on Tuesday and if the administration prevented them from proceeding towards the Chief Minister’s residence the members might take the extreme step of self-immolating themselves.
He further said if such a mishap would happen the administration will be squarely responsible for that. With the protest on, traffic congestions were witnessed on roads at Survey Chowk, resulting in public inconvenience.
