Jobless BEd-TET qualified members shift protest site

The agitating federation of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed youths would now hold their dharna outside the premises of state Education Directorate. The federation has decided to shift the protest site to avoid the repetition of stone throwing incident which happed on Wednesday.

The Federation is camping for many days inside the building of state education directorate in support of its demand of job in the primary teacher cadre of the state.

Stones were thrown by allegedly by some protesting members of the Federation towards the office of Primary Education Director on Wednesday.

The President of B.Ed. / TET Federation Baldev Singh Bhandari said that the incident of stone throwing was very unfortunate but claimed that no member of B.Ed./ TET

federation was involved in it. He said that the Federation has decided to shift the protest site so that such incidences do not happen again.

The federation is on a path of agitation since January 5 this year; its only demand is that the state government should immediately fill the large number of vacant posts of primary teachers in the government schools of the state.

The agitation of the federation was prompted by the recent decision of the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) in which it clearly directed that the posts of the primary teachers should be filled only by the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) qualified candidates. There are more than 25000 B.Ed./TET qualified youths in the state and the directive of the NCTE meant ending the job prospects of these youths.

The State Government initiated recruitment process in the 1891 posts of the primary teachers in the State, but the drive was stalled by High Court.
