Jobless ambulance workers write letters in blood

Published on:

Continuing their protest, the ousted workers of the 108 emergency ambulance service on Sunday wrote letters using their blood instead of ink to the chief minister and director general of medical health and family welfare reiterating their demands.

It will be recalled here that the contract of GVK- EMRI company to operate 108 emergency ambulance service had ended on April 30 after which the new company, CAMP took over the operation of this ambulance service. The new company CAMP is offering less salary to the experienced workers which is the main cause of conflict between the company and the association of workers. The workers are demanding that they should be absorbed into the new company on the same salaries they were paid earlier.

About 717 workers were left without a job since the new company took over. Continuing their protest near the Parade Ground in Dehradun, the now jobless workers have so far resorted to other means apart from their dharna to raise their demands while undertaking their indefinite period agitation. They have taken out a protest march to the collectorate in Dehradun. On the way some of the workers also begged for alms from the general public in an attempt to highlight their plight.
