About eight months after the Dharchula Assembly by-elections, residents of Jarajibli village complain that the promises made to them by the Congress have not been fulfilled despite Chief Minister Harish Rawat being elected by the public from this constituency. The locals point out that the Chief Minister had promised to facilitate electrification of the area but this has not been done so far with the electricity poles lying on the roadside for months.
The locals state that Rawat had made many promises including the electrification of Jarajibli, to the voters of the constituency during the Assembly by-polls. Before voting in the by-polls, electricity poles were brought to the area and placed on the roadside at Bansbagad on the Jolikot-Madkot motor road. A message was sent to the people of Jarajibli about the poles being placed in the area in preparation for electrification. The local party leaders had assured the people that Jarajibli would be provided electricity connection after the by-polls.
Though the people voted for the CM, the village is still without electricity connection with even the poles not being transported from the site they were placed at months ago. Sources state that Jarajibli village has not been included in the list of villages proposed to be provided power supply by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited. The BJP Dharchula block in-charge Jagat Martoliya has written a letter to the State Governor Dr KK Paul demanding that the promised electrification of this village be facilitated without further delay.
According to Martoliya, the State Government has not acted on the promises made to the voters by the chief minister during the Assembly by-polls. “Considering that the CM appears to have forgotten the promise he had made to the voters here, the locals now believe that having the Chief Minister as their MlA neither ensures development of the area nor jobs for the unemployed. The people of this border area are disappointed with the tenure of the chief minister so far as their MlA,” he said. The BJP will undertake a movement to elicit the focus of the State Government to fulfilling the promises made during the by-poll, added Martoliya.
