After realising the fact that the shortage of potable water could be easily reduced if the department repairs and renovate old potable water pipelines, the Jal Sansthan has decided to renovate the old potable water pipelines in more than one dozen colonies of the capital city.

However, department  officials told that the contractors were asked to send the proposals for bringing the project to the ground level. With the temperature rising the capital city, the demand of potable water has also increased several times.  Despite taking several measures by the Jal Sansthan to provide sufficient potable water supply to residents who are living in the sub-urban areas of the district, the supply of potable water has been disrupted.

Residents who are living in the sub-urban areas of the State have been facing acute water crisis during winter also. Officials lamented that the rate of consumption has increased manifold since State came into being existence and the department is facing 14.42 million litres per day (MlD) shortfall that is compensated through the limited public water supply capacity.

After realizing the fact that the demand of potable water could be easily met by the department if old potable water pipelines are repaired, a plan has been drafted by the department for repairing old potable water pipelines in more than one dozen localities in the capital city.

The areas are Badrish Colony, Divya Vihar, Auli road, Majjri Mafi, Tunwala, Ayudh Vihar, Garhwali Colony Jawala Vihar, Mayur Colony, lower Nehrugram, Saraswati Vihar,  Ajabpur, Mata Mandir Marg, Kunjapuri, Mandakini Enclave. Department sources said it would cost the department around Rs 50 lakhs for renovating old pipelines. They told The Pioneer that proposed work would be completed in three to four months.
