In a major decision, the State Government has decided to continue the Jan Aushadhi Kendra (JAK) located inside the premises of associated hospital of DMC. The Principal of the DMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said the decision was taken in the meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary, health, Om Prakash on Thursday. He said that the other details like how to run the low cost medicine centre would soon be finalised.
The JAC was part of the Doon Hospital and was started with an aim to provide low cost generic medicines to the patients inside the hospital. The JAC was run by the Hospital Management Committee (HMC). After the hospital was merged into medical college the HMC now no longer exists as there is no such provision in a medical college. With the state government deciding to continue the centre the clouds of uncertainty looming over it have dispersed.
