Around 70 notorious criminals, including Sunil Rathi and Narendra Tomar, are in various jails located across the State. Apparently taking lessons from the incident in which Amit Malik 'Bhura' had escaped from police custody while being taken to court in Baghpat, all the superintendents of the jails have been directed to be in touch with circle officers and sub-divisional magistrates concerned when hardcore criminals are being taken to courts in connection with their trials, said Secretary (home, jail) Vinod Sharma on Monday.
Sharma said that instruction has been issued to ensure that the policemen to be deputed for escorting the notorious criminals should be informed in details of the antecedents of those to be escorted. The escort team members should be properly briefed by experienced police officers. Moreover, the jail officials have been directed to keep strict vigil on the hardcore criminals in prisons too. Instruction has been issued to the jail officials to check the belongings of the hardcore criminals daily and ensure that he does not use cell phone while being in jail, he added.
