Quizzed during a press meet in the city over police’s failure to control road accidents happening and taking toll of lives nearly every alternate day, the State director general of police Anil K Raturi turned philosophical and took recourse to his oratory skills to bring the point home saying the men failing to evolve into human beings are behind what is happening on the roads.
“It is wrong to blame police for the accidents. Police’s role is limited, given the fact that it is just one of the numerous organs of the State machinery,” he said.
He then invoked sociologists and thinkers to buttress his point that the failure of the man to rightly evolve into a true human being, his tendencies to break rules and his proneness to evil are more to blame for the state of things prevailing than the police. “Many great scholars have explained how things are, how men are prone to indulge in things which they should detest,” he said.
“If the people choose to ride two -wheelers sans helmets and invite death on themselves where is the role of the policeIJ” he asked.
“They are not yet evolved enough to control themselves. My point is that putting all blame for road accidents at the doorstep of police is wrong. The people themselves must take responsibility and grow more responsible to avert accidents.
Unless the people turn responsible enough we can hardly solve things on our own,” the State police chief said.
