Taking cognizance of the complaints of students about irregularities in the process of admission in the first year MBBS course, the medical education department has issued a notice to the Principal of the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Jollygrant.
In a letter written to the medical college on Thursday, the Medial Education Director, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, has asked the college to submit complete details of the counseling done for MBBS under the National Eligibility-cum- Entrance Test (NEET) 2016. He has also sought a list of all the candidates registered for counseling, their all-India rank, their marks obtained with date of births, the list of candidates given admission till date and details of vacant seats within the next two days.
In the strongly worded letter, the director has warned that if this information is not provided, then the directorate would be forced to recommend cancellation of counselling done by the medical college to the Government of India and the Medical Council of India (MCI). Dr Sayana said that the college is not cooperating and has not provided the details of the counselling sought by a team of observers of the department. He clearly said that this medical college (HIMS) has not followed the time table in the second phase of counselling.
Dr Sayana informed that the department has received complaints of the registered candidates who have raised questions on the selection process. All efforts of this correspondent to get the reaction of the authorities of HIMS failed. It is worth mentioning here that the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has 150 MBBS seats while the ones at Srinagar and Haldwani have 100 seats each. Apart from them, the Sri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) medical college Dehradun and the Himalayan Institute of Medical Studies (HIMS) are private medical colleges and have 150 seats each. SGRR and HIMS submitted 25 seats each to State and they are doing counselling for 125 seats from the NEET- 2016 merit list. Three counsellings are going on in State to fill seats of colleges while in most of States it’s single counselling.
In Uttarakhand, one counselling is in progress for the Government medical colleges and 50 seats of private colleges submitted to the State Government, the other is of HIMS for its 125 seats and third one is of a consortium consisting of SGRR and private dental colleges.
