Irregularities in appointment irks GB Pant varsity staff

Published on:

The employees union of the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology is demanding the immediate removal from post of an official accused of irregularities in the selection process for positions in the university.

It should be mentioned here that in September 2005, 11 people had applied for the post of assistant professor in the Animal Science department of the university and of these three applicants made it to the merit list. Of the three applicants, Dr BN Shahi was appointed to the post.

Dr Sunil Kumar was third on the merit list but it was alleged that the selection committee gave Kumar 10 marks in stead of 12 for his PhD.

later when the court was approached with the plea that wrong allocation of marks had prevented Kumar from being appointed, the university administration appointed him too as an assistant professor.

Following this, Dr UB Singh, who was second in the merit list also appealed to the university chancellor and then Governor of Uttarakhand, Margaret Alva that he should be appointed as the persons placed first and third on the merit list were appointed.

She had pulled up the university administration and directed it to again invite applications for the post advertised in the past.

Following this the university management council, in its 212th meet held in September 2010 had blacklisted six members of the selection committee including Dr Vivekanand. However, since being blacklisted, this officer has continued on the post in the selection committee till date.

Now, three unions of the employees have demanded that he be removed immediately from his post in the selection committee because he is still part of the selection process in spite of being black listed. The unions have termed as invalid, all the appointments in which the blacklisted officer had a role to play. They have raised the issue with the university’s chief personnel officer Nidhi Yadav.
