Inviting outsiders in the rally being organised by the different students' unions in the DAV (PG) College campus is a clear violation of lyngdoh committee's recommendations on students' union election. To show their might before the election, different student unions started conducting rallies even though college has not declared it's the union election date.
As per lyngdoh committee's recommendations on union election, candidates and their supporters can not organise rally without prior permission from college election officer. Election rallies outside college campus are strictly prohibited in the recommendation. Candidates can not use printed posters and pamphlets within college campus or in the city. Election campaigns around class rooms and other academic places within the campus are strictly prevented. To woo the voters, they can install handmade posters or banners at demarcated place within the college campus.
Student leaders and their supporters in DAV (PG) College can be seen violating the committee's recommendations. Printed posters of candidates of different union can not only be seen within the college campus but at different places in the city. Without declaration of election date, almost all the unions had organised rally by raising slogans in favour of candidates from their union's office to college campus. Those students reach college for their admissions are facing inconvenience during rally.
DAV (PG) College election officer Dr Gopal Kshetri said that he would soon declare union's election date. He had recently chaired a meeting with student leaders and directed them to follow lyngdoh Committee's recommendations. Outsiders in the rallies will not be allowed at any cost. Action against the candidates will be taken under recommendations if they are caught inviting outsiders in their rally.
SGRR (PG) College election officer Pradeep Singh said, "I have chaired a meeting with union leaders and informed them about lyngdoh Committee's recommendations". According to him election in the college will be held in the first week of September. DBS (PG) College Principal OP Kulshrestha said that polling of students' union election will be held on September 6.
