State Finance Minister and MlA from Haldwani, Indira Haridayesh's ‘dream’ project- international standard sports stadium — which had been hanging fire for quite some time,  may now see light of the day. With the completion of all the basic formalities to give a concrete shape to the  about Rs 225 crore project-as Haridayesh claims-,  the Chief Minister Harish Rawat is likely to do the customary  'bhumi pujan' at Golapaar in Haldwani on November 13.

Describing the international standard sports stadium as her 'dream' project, Hridayesh reiterated that she wanted this project to be completed during her present tenure  as the representative of the Haldwani Assembly Constituency. She said it was with this purpose in view that the agency concerned has been given 18 months to complete the project over about 30.20 hectare land at Golapaar, Haldwani.

However, the officials concerned of the construction company, Nagarjun Construction Company, have expressed hope that the project would be completed  in just 15 months. In case the construction agency manages to complete the project before the stipulated time, it would be rewarded with special incentives, Haridayesh announced.

The proposed stadium to be constructed at Golapaar would be the biggest stadium in the Kumaon region and one of the top stadiums across the country endowed with all modern facilities. The stadium will not just facilitate big sports events but also offer an opportunity to the budding local players to hone their sporting skills, maintained the MlA from Haldwani. The Government would pay additional funds if the cost of the projects exceeds beyond the estimated amount, she added.

Conceptualised nearly a decade ago, the proposed modern international standard stadium will be equipped with  all the  modern sports facilities like  the indoor badminton stadium, separate ground for cricket, football and other sports activities, apart from a pavilion. After performing the customary 'bhumi pujan', Chief Minister Rawat  is also expected to address a rally the same day day there.

Apart from MlA from Haridayesh, Sports Minister Dinesh Aggarwal, Revenue Minister Yashpal Arya and labour Minister Harish Durgapal are also expected to be present on the occasion.
