Internal rift in one of the biggest government teacher’s organisation, the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) has deepened by the controversy which occurred in the recent election of district body of Dehradun.
Divisions in the organisation of lecturer Teachers (lT) and lecturers came into fore some months ago when the General Secretary (GS) of the organization Sardar Singh Chauhan, refused to step down from his position even after he retired in the month of March this year.
The divisions in the organisation again surfaced in the elections of the district body of Dehradun on November 7. In these elections Narendra Singh Bisht was elected for the position of District President as he defeated Sohan Singh Negi by a wafer thin margin of two votes. The defeated candidate Negi asked for recounting of votes but his demand was rejected by the election officer SS Bisht. The state general secretary of RSS, SS Chauhan put pressure on the election officer for the recount but he refused to budge. An infuriated Chauhan took the matter of recounting to the state education minister Mantri Prasad Naithani. The move however backfired as voices of protest emerged from the organisation against Chauhan.
The district President of Chamoli, K K Dimri said that it is unfortunate that the matter was taken outside the organisation. He was of the opinion that the decision on the recounting could have been taken by the state committee of RSS as per the constitution of the organisation.
The divisions in the organisation are expected to increase further in the coming days as the process of elections of other districts and state working committees have started. The elections for all the district units are expected to be completed by next month while the state working committee is slated be elected in the month of January. It is worth mentioning here that the two year term of the state working committee was completed on August 31 and the present office bearers are actually working in ad hoc capacity.
