Dehradun police have busted an inter-State prostitution racket by conducting raids at two houses including the house of a Major in Patelnagar area on Friday.
The police have arrested around dozens of people including women allegedly involved in operating sex racket in both the places in the State capital. Police received tip-off about sex racket being operated at two places in Patelnagar area. SP City Ajay Singh said that following the direction of SSP, two teams led by circle officer Manoj Kumar Katyal was formed and they pressed in to act.
One team members conducted raids in a house located at Doon Enclave, Patelangar and arrested the sex racket operators. They were operating from a rented accommodation and owner of the house was Major. Two women (both were relatives) were operating the racket. They were living in Garhi Cantt. Both had hired a house in Doon Enclave, Shimla bypass for operations. Four brokers were also arrested under Immoral Trafficking Act from the spot. Five women were rescued.
The accused have been identified as Sikandar, resident of Madeena Colony, Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), lavkesh Kumar, resident of Rishikesh, Prakash Thapa, a Nepal national and living in Mehuwala, Patelnagar, Kumar Magar, a Nepal national and including two women. Police have seized a car and mobile phones from their possession.
Acting on tip off, another team had conducted raid in a house located at Dehrakhas, Patelangar and arrested four persons including a couple and two brokers on Friday evening. The accused have been identified as Sanjay and his wife, resident of Nai Basti, Virendra, resident of Raipur and Anup, resident of Ballupur Chowk.
From them, Police have also seized a car and mobile phones, allegedly used for running the racket. The sex racket was being operated in the house of Malti Dowal, resident of MDDA, Nehru Colony and Sanjay and his wife were operating the sex racket. Women were being brought from Darjeeling, West Bengal, Delhi and Nepal.
Notably, Dehradun Police had busted an inter-State prostitution racket and arrested eight persons, including six women, from an Army officer’s (Colonel) residence at Pragati Vihar under Cement Town Police Station area on December 15.
