Inquiry into transport officials' absence during surprise check

Uttarakhand Transport secretary and Garhwal commissioner CS Napalchyal  has directed the Transport deputy commissioner  to inquire into the absence of regional transport officer and assistant transport officer from their office during a surprise inspection by Pauri district magistrate Chandrashekhar Bhatt last week.

The DM had earlier informed the secretary about the absent officials, recommending that a day’s salary be deducted and explanation be sought from them. Napalchyal  has asked Transport deputy commissioner Sunita Singh to inquire the case and submit a report on it. Action will be taken accordingly on the basis of the inquiry report, he said.

It should be noted here that the Pauri DM had on December 10 conducted a surprise check of the Regional Transport Office at district headquarter Pauri. The assistant transport officer Dwarika Prasad and regional transport officer Dinesh Chandra  were absent from their office during the inspection.

Prior to this four doctors were absent when chief development officer Harak Singh Rawat had conducted a surprise inspection of the district hospital and district women’s hospital in Pauri. The inquiry report of the chief medical officer submitted to DM stated that three doctors- Dr US Kandwal, Dr N Raturi and Dr BC Ramola were absent without permission on a leave since October while Dr DP Joshi, who was absent during the inspection has returned to his duty.  Taking cognisance of the absenteeism of doctors the DM has directed the CMO to inquire and submit a report on matter. The matter of absent doctors will be sent to the State government. Bhatt told The Pioneer that the surprise inspections and checks in various government offices, hospitals and corporation will be conducted across the district. This is aimed at ensuring that government officers are present in their office for redressal of public grievances and to improve the work culture in government establishments. Strict action will be taken against employees and officers found to be absent without permission during the surprise inspections, added the DM.
